Brewing change
Building opportunity and belonging through meaningful work
Every now and then, you come across a brand that feels like a rare find, not just because the product is great, but because the purpose behind it is impossible to ignore. Tap Social Movement is one of those discoveries. Like organisations such as Fine Cell Work, it shows how thoughtful businesses can create high-quality products while offering dignity, paid work, and real second chances to people rebuilding their lives after prison.
Tap Social Movement
Tap Social Movement came about from a clear belief: that meaningful employment can change lives and that everyone benefits when no one is excluded from work. Founded in Oxford, Tap Social is a fully independent social enterprise, craft brewery, bakery, and hospitality organisation that creates training and employment opportunities for people in prison and prison leavers.

Tap Social’s impact is rooted in direct employment. To date, the organisation has created more than 95,000 hours of paid, meaningful work for people leaving prison. Today, around one third of Tap Social’s workforce has had contact with the UK criminal justice system - a reflection of a company built on lived experience and inclusion. These roles span brewing, baking, hospitality, logistics, and operations, offering genuine responsibility, progression, and a supportive working environment.
At its core, Tap Social exists to challenge exclusion. The organisation believes that fulfilling work builds self-confidence, resilience, and stability, foundations for a productive and happy life after prison. Their beer cans share information about the prison system, the challenges people face after release, and features artwork by talented people in prison, turning everyday products into tools for awareness, storytelling, and advocacy.
Beyond its own operations, Tap Social has become a leading voice within the UK social enterprise community. The organisation actively advocates for fair employment, criminal justice reform, and inclusive hiring practices, using its platform to influence policy conversations and public attitudes. Tap Social recognises that social and environmental justice are deeply connected, embedding sustainability across brewing, sourcing, waste reduction, and energy use.
Ask the team what Tap Social means to them, and the answers speak volumes: supportive, life-changing, a place where people believe in you. Employees describe feeling trusted, valued, and proud of the work they do — often for the first time. Their central value is simple but radical: employment should be accessible, dignified, and meaningful — and businesses can be powerful platforms for social change when people are placed at the centre.
